Ashwini Jambhekar, PhD
Associate Lab Director

My interests lie in the areas of cell cycle regulation and DNA repair, and how non-coding RNA influences these processes. I have studied these topics in a variety of model systems such as yeast, Xenopus, C. elegans, and mammalian cell culture using a wide range of genetic, microscopy, and biochemical techniques. I enjoy mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and postdocs at all stages of their projects in these areas. Additionally, I am a core faculty member at HMS and teach biochemistry and cell biology to first-year medical and dental students. When I am not doing science, I enjoy knitting and sewing, and I am nearly at my goal of having a fully-handmade wardrobe. I speak fluent conversational Marathi and studied Latin for many years in school (and almost chose a Classics major!), so I can understand the basics in Hindi and most Romance languages, although I can’t speak in any of them.
